Christmas...

Okay, so now I know why we have a Christmas break in school. It's not for the students, as I used to so naiivly believe... no, no... It's actually for the teachers... Or more accurately, to prevent teachers from ending up in prison for killing their students. I'd like to think there's no jury in the world that would convict us... But seeing as the key piece of evidence (aka the student themselves) would be dead, it would be very hard to gain the sympathy of a judge and/or jury. Hence, the break. Good plan, I say.

But to be honest, my students can absolutely suck, and make me want to pull my hair out - and then one of them turns around and does something so kind and lovely that it melts the anger away. I must never show them that they have this power... I'm already comprimised with Mr. Noah, my resident cool kid. He knows that I adore him - he's got that hair flip and the looking under the eyelashes bit down pat.. Look out high school drama girls... Speaking of lovely Noah, he was super pumped to find out that I downloaded and started playing Maple Story, that online game Ryan was talking about a little while ago. After learning this, he nonchalently approached me, and we had the following conversation:

N: Hey, um... Miss McSweeny?
K: Hey Noah, what's up?
N: Did you, um, read the, um, new features on Maple Story?
K: No, I didn't bud.
N: Oh... well... um. On Maple Story, now, um, two characters can... you know... get
married.
K: Oh...really? Cool... Okay, so who's ready to add some decimals?

There may have been some shoe scuffing on his part, and there was some definite peering up at me from under the eyelashes... I really hope he doesn't ask me to marry him in Maple Story. As funny as it sounds, how would you explain that to people in a way that wouldn't get you arrested?

I'm almost finished all of my Christmas shopping. Ry, Chels, since you two are the only ones I think who read this, you'll be happy to know your gifts are safe and sound and ready to be gifted! :) Last night was my staff Christmas party, and let me tell you, teachers are the biggest drunks I've ever met! Trevor (my Grade 5 teaching partner)had to spend the entire party running away from the very drunk Kindergarten teaher who kept poking him in the stomach and taking his picture (not to mention asking him to eat lettuce that fell on the floor becuase that's sooooooooooooooooo funny *arm touch* and Trevor is sooooooooooooooooo awesome *chest push* and she's soooooooooooooooooooo glad that he ate the lettuce *photo snap*.) I told him however, that that's what happens when you're not officially married yet and you work in a female dominated profession... I think he would have preferred if the one hitting on him had not been wearing a red polar fleece vest with embroidered snowmen, but he managed to suck it up by hiding in the bathroom for a large portion of the evening...

Adam and I went to see Stuart McClean tonight at Convocation Hall, and he was, as always, just what I needed to get me right into the Christmas spirit. Trevor and I are headed out to some tiny club in Milton tomorrow to see some of the Grade 5 boys in one of their first official "gigs" as a rock band. They're so excited! Adam and I are heading out to see Wicked next week - woo hoo! Thanks Chels for lending me that very odd and delightful book! We managed to get front row seats, which I've never had for theatre before (other than Sears Drama Festivals and that doesn't count, because really how exciting could it have been seeing Beth Zdriluk THAT close?) so I'm pretty excited. We've also got tickets for We Will Rock You in March, which should be awesome!

Chelsey - what day do you actually come home? You're mom told me, but we were both nervous so I wasn't really listening. I'm hoping you can come in and see my classroom at some point... Ryan, I hope you guys had fun eating the gingerbread house and watching Christmas videos tonight... I wish I could have been there!!

Whew, big entry... Tired now...

K.

More random thoughts...

So, my brain is almost squeezed dry.. .much like a discarded lemon after making lemonade... Mmm... lemonade. One minute I need some lemonade of my very own ... Okay, that was delicious. Is it wrong that I think of both Elvis and Eddie Murphy each time I hear/say/read the word "lemonade"? Back on track - where was I? Ah yes - I started my online Teaching Special Education course today. Holy shite is there a disgusting amount of work. Seriously - three assignments due in one day? One day?! What do these people think I'm sitting aroud doing nothing all summer? I'm not a real teacher yet for God's sake! Okay, that's out. All is worth it though, since I'll start my first real teaching job in September! Hurrah! It's only for one month, but I'm excited nonetheless to be in a school with children, instead of with adults who only act like children. ;) Strangely, today my afternoon class all came down with a strange sickness, and needed to head home at around 2:30pm... Just in time for that soccer game - hey! Ah well... Portugal lost anyways, so I'm sure they'll be lamenting the tragedy all day tomorrow. I've had a rather dramatic few days with some unaired laundry flying all out and all over the place. I have to believe it will end in something positive - something genuine. It's a bit like a labyrinth trying to figure it out - without being eaten by a minotaur. Strange metaphor, not really sure what I mean with that. But, like I said... my brain is operating on empty a bit right now... I'm back in student mode - which strangely... I've actually missed. I don't however miss working full time while doing it - grown up life sucks! How I long for the carefree days of Village on the Green... Smoking pot with Dan, Chelsey, and Renee... and worrying only about the quality of Trading Spaces without Ty Pennington (mediocre at best if you really want to know...) Ah well... dinner beckons. This has rambled for long enough!! Random!! (So seriously Chelsey, are there bugs in Germany?)

K.

Random...

So, Chelsey is coming home, and that made in the best mood ever! It reminded me of all the good times in Village on the Green... I'd forgotten about Dan throwing the pot into the river... Way to go Dan! But I do remember Friday night pizza... Dan making WAY too much party mix in the oven and stinking up the house... playing Roller Coaster Tycoon on the old Nintendo... Carrying big sticks home for Chelsey's opera... feeding ducks... getting Max out of a tree (he was in fact helping)... and playing the bathroom fan game. Man used to get so mad when we pressed the fan button and made that annoying buzzing noise... I think she liked to pretend she didn't ever go to the bathroom! :) I'm starting to feel positive about a lot of things for the first time in a long time, and I'm only realizing as I write this, that it's been a rough few months. Nothing too serious... just a lot of little stumbles trying to take the colour from my day... Good memories always help me push the funk away - and the idea that there are lots of new memories to be had...

So... for fun... Favourite memories??

Cheers!

Holidays... Take Two...

Okay, so Ryan pointed out to me that I posted my message in the wrong spot... but maybe I just like replying to myself so that I feel MORE special... Sigh... Okay, so I'll post it again... here:

So, I just got back (on Monday... soon enough I suppose) from a blustery long weekend away at Pixie's yellow cottage. Riann, Nicole, Adam, Nate, and I engaged in many a card game - helped immensely by a drunken emergency call to my father in B.C. to clarify the exact rules for "Fuck The Rat". That one was enjoyed by all - and we successfully moved on to the immensely enjoyable "Bugger Your Neighbour", which Nate somehow translated into "Bugger Your Neighbour's Dog"... We decided to let him play that particular version solo. Nicole finally watched Spaceballs (... and I have both... and you KNOW it...) to much delight. We engaged in the 2006 Food Olympics to much success... Overall a very successful weekend - drama was minimized and Adam's snoring was somewhat contained... on the couch. THAT, my friends, is true love... :)

K.

Spring Cleaning...

So... It was time for some spring cleaning this weekend... and then I was talking to Chelsey all the way from Germany and thought a spring cleaning for my brain might be in order... See Chelsey - I told you I wouldn't do this and then just to be contrary I did! No guarentee on how often I'll write one of these suckers, but you never know...

I'm so excited for the lovely weather to start up again. I have this terrible feeling that it will be icky and cool when we go away for the May long weekend, but even still I know we'll all have fun. I'm listening to Ben Harper in preparation for the concert in September - my mother says this is "druggie music"...Erm... yeah, I guess it kinda is!

That's it for now... Just a short one to start out... Who will read this I wonder....

K.
